Production Lead
The Virginia Distillery Co., an American Single Malt Whisky distillery located in Lovingston, VA is seeking a Production Lead I and Production Lead II. These positions are within our Operations Team organization and will strive to achieve our relentless pursuit of operational excellence.

This is a full-time position with benefits and will require availability as needed by the production schedule including morning, evening, overnight, or weekend shifts. The role will be located on-site at our Distillery in Lovingston, VA.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintaining the highest degree of safety with responsibility for yourself and fellow team members
- Distilling operations including milling, mashing, distilling, cask filling and handling
- Bottling operations including rinsing, filling, corking, labeling, packing, and all other assembly needs
- Maintain meticulous records for all processes, operations, and compliance purposes
- Maintain high standards of quality for production of spirits, casks, and finished goods, including performing routine and ad-hoc quality checks
- Contribute to process improvement ideas & implementation, support of 5S initiatives, and our company culture of Continuous Improvement
- Cleaning of all distillery, bottling, production, and common areas – we take our food beverage production facility cleanliness seriously!
- Regular and predictable attendance at the work site, this role requires regular presence at the distillery production facilities
- Support cellar operations including cask movement, spirit reductions, and warehouse logistics
Qualifications
- Applicant must be dependable, reliable, professional, and comfortable working in various indoor and outdoor conditions
- Beverage alcohol (beer / wine / spirits) industry operations experience. Brewing experience is preferred.
- Strong problem-solving and equipment troubleshooting skills
- Forklift truck operation
- Prior experience in production or manufacturing operations, and the use of both general and process-specific brewing or distilling tools and equipment
- Self-motivated and operates with a sense of urgency!
- Great ability to communicate and work well in a team-based highly collaborative environment. Communication is a core competency of this role!

- Open-minded and positive thinker that supports our continuous improvement culture.
- A high school diploma or experience in food beverage manufacturing, processing, and packaging.
- This role requires the ability to lift 50 lb., standing for extended periods of time, work from heights and in confined spaces, with variable temperatures including high heat during the warmer seasons
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior brewing experience is strongly preferred.
- Bachelor's or Associate’s degree is beneficial but prior work experience is more important
- Prior experience in food manufacturing
Compensation
Job Type: Full-Time
Production Lead level (I, II, or III) is determined by years of experience, skills, performance, and ability to operate, lead, or train others. A Production Lead I starts at $20.50 per hour. A Production Lead II starts at $22.50 per hour.
This position is non-exempt from minimum wage and overtime requirements under the Fair Labor Standards Act, accordingly this position will be eligible for overtime compensation for hours worked in excess of 40 hours per week. Overtime is occasionally expected for this role.
