Production Lead I - Distiller

    The Virginia Distillery Co., an American Single Malt Whisky distillery located in Lovingston, VA is seeking a Production Lead I - Distiller. This position is within our Operations Team organization and will strive to achieve our relentless pursuit of operations excellence.

We work hard to bring our category-defining American Single Malt Whisky to market.     This is a full-time position with benefits and will require availability as needed by the production schedule including morning, evening, overnight, or weekend shifts. The role will be located on-site at our Distillery in Lovingston, VA.

     

    Key Responsibilities

    • Maintaining the highest degree of safety with responsibility for yourself and fellow team members
    • Distilling operations including milling, mashing, distilling, cask filling and handling
    • Maintain meticulous records for all processes, operations, and compliance purposes
    • Maintain high standards of quality for production of spirits, casks, and finished goods, including performing routine and ad-hoc quality checks
    • Contribute to process improvement ideas & implementation, support of 5S initiatives, and our company culture of Continuous Improvement
    • Cleaning of all distillery, bottling, production, and common areas – we take our food beverage production facility cleanliness seriously!
    • Regular and predictable attendance at the work site, this role requires regular presence at the distillery production facilities
    • Support cellar operations including cask movement, spirit reductions, and warehouse logistics
    • Support bottling operations including rinsing, filling, corking, labeling, packing, and all other assembly needs

     

    Qualifications & Desired Experience

    • Applicant must be dependable, reliable, professional, and comfortable working in various indoor and outdoor conditions
    • Beer, wine, or spirits industry operations experience. Brewing experience is preferred.
    • Strong problem-solving and equipment troubleshooting skills
    • Forklift truck operation
    • Prior experience in production or manufacturing operations, and the use of both general and process-specific brewing or distilling tools and equipment
    • Self-motivated and operates with a sense of urgency
    • Great ability to communicate and work well in a team-based highly collaborative environment. Communication is a core competency of this role!

    • A high school diploma or bachelor’s degree and 2+ years of experience in food beverage manufacturing
    • This role requires the ability to lift 50 lb., standing for extended periods of time, work from heights and in confined spaces, with variable temperatures including high heat during the warmer seasons

     

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Two years or more of prior brewing experience is strongly preferred.
    • Bachelor's or Associate’s degree preferred with two years of relevant experience in manufacturing

     

    Compensation

    This position is non-exempt from minimum wage and overtime requirements under the Fair Labor Standards Act, accordingly this position will be eligible for overtime compensation for hours worked in excess of 40 hours per week.

Tours & Tastings Lead

    Key Responsibilities

    • Providing an ultra-premium spirits industry experience to all visitors, including consumers, industry representatives, and private event attendees.
    • Leading the Guest Experience Team tasting operations, maintaining cocktail quality behind the bar, coaching consistency behind the bar, and collaborating on the development of new cocktails and programs within the Visitor Center.
    • Learning and subsequently communicating the basics of our product and process knowledge.

    Qualifications

    • Strong customer service skills along with a professional and engaging demeanor
    • 2+ years premium cocktail bartending or service industry experience
    • Excellent public speaking, verbal, and written communication skills
    • Applicant must be dependable, reliable, have track record of on-time attendance, professional, and comfortable working with the public.
    • Must be at least 21 years of age, capable of lifting 40 lbs., and be able to walk and stand for extended periods of time
    • Expert or highly experienced with reservation, retail, and POS systems (preferably Shopify / Peek).
    • Highly proficient with technology, hardware, and Microsoft Office Suite.

    Tips: Tips will be split at the end of each day amongst all team members staffing the Visitors Center proportionally with how many hours were worked for the day

    Standard Hours: 28-40 hours weekly

    Additional shifts possible outside of Hours of Operation for private events awarded on first-come-first-served basis.

Operations Planner

    Key Responsibilities

    • Primarily supporting key Supply Chain functions including but not limited to: production and bottling schedule planning to support sales demand, on-time procurement of materials, and finished goods supply logistics
    • Working with Supply Chain Solutions Manager to drive Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) processes to align all the plans for the business (sales, marketing, development, manufacturing, sourcing, and financial) into one integrated set of plans.
    • Develop, maintain, and drive the execution of highly visible supply chain dashboards to track operations and communicate status to the entire team.
    • Identify, evaluate, plan, and support execution of continuous improvement projects to increase the team's effectiveness in meeting business goals including safety, revenue, quality, and productivity goals
    • Manage inventory procurement for all raw materials, foster existing vendor relationships and support the development of new vendors.
    • Responsible for raw material inventory readiness, availability, and visibility.
    • Interacting with vendors and our internal brand and sales teams, encompassing critical component planning, allocation direction, supply flexibility modeling, and materials liability management.
    • Support project timelines and resources and ensure risk mitigation actions are identified and in place to ensure successful product launches
    • Analyze demand, inventory, and program usage to develop and manage weekly and quarterly supply plans. Results should meet Virginia Distillery Co.’s growth plans, while achieving aggressive time-to-market goals and minimizing finished goods and raw material liability.
    • Collaborate with operations management team to administer, create, and maintain policies and procedures for effective labor, equipment, and resource management.
    • Regular and predictable attendance at the work site, this role requires regular presence at the distillery production facilities
    • This role may occasionally require lifting up to 40 lbs. and the use a forklift.

    Qualifications

    • Prior experience in supply chain, project management, production planning, production control, inventory management, or production/manufacturing operations.
    • Self-motivated and operates with a great sense of urgency and ability to drive progress under immense degree of ambiguity and be comfortable working in an unstructured environment.

    Compensation

The Field Market Representative in the Massachusetts reports directly to the Northeast Market Manager, must reside in territory, and will be the dominant spirits broker in both market share and sales execution for Virginia Distillery Company.

    Key Responsibilities

    Develop and maintain relationships with Distributor Representatives and retail off- premise accounts in territory to ensure Virginia Distillery Company’s long term sales goals and objectives are achieved.

    Make retail off premise account calls in a professional, consistent, and timely basis to develop and maintain relationships within assigned accounts, resulting in sales growth, new POD and continued depletions in accounts.

    Responsible for development of an efficient daily route with monthly planning & quarterly adjustments, to maintain sales placements and seek out new opportunities.

    Utilize KARMA & Power BI tools on a daily and weekly basis to support real time, data-driven reporting and decision making.

    Track & Maintain KPI’s and Retail Off Premise Programs.

    Monitor inventory and proper use of POS material.

    Conduct staff training seminars, tastings, store tastings, support Brand & Sales events in market.

    Pre-sell upcoming discounts and additional inventory.

    Survey and maintain account database for brand usage, promotional opportunities, etc.

    Maintain weekly reporting to Northeast Market Manager which includes (but is not limited to): itinerary, new item presentations, pertinent customers, and competitive information.

    Maintain business travel & expense budget, reporting, and market tastings budget.

    Maintain vehicle in a professional, efficient manner to assist in overall job performance

    Ability to obtain and maintain state solicitors permit and any other state-required licensing.

    Daily, Weekly and Monthly Activities

    90 % of time will be spent in market with assigned accounts, distributor representatives, brand, and sales events, tasting events, staff training & meeting with Virginia Distillery Company leadership.

    5 % Administrative duties such as: telephone, email, expense reporting, mail communication.

    5% Divisional meetings- office and suppliers. Miscellaneous duties and tasks as assigned

    Qualifications & Desired Experience

    Bachelor's Degree, WSET or similar training a plus.

    Two or more years’ experience in wine/spirits sales within specified market.

    Exceptionally strong time-management skills.

    Strong comfort level with technology.

    Exceptional verbal & written communication skills required.

    Must have valid driver’s license.

    Position requires frequent travel and occasional overnights.

    Compensation

    This is a salaried full-time position with benefits, commissions, and is eligible for participation in our Employee Equity Program. This role reports to the Northeast Manager and must reside in territory.
