    Virginia Distillery Company (VDC) is seeking a Chicago-based Whisky Envoy to support selling and in-market activity. The person in this position will serve as VDC’s eyes and ears in the Greater Chicago market and will support local activation plans to engage and enthuse retailers and consumers alike.

    Direction and support will come from the Midwest Market Manager and the Sales Director.

    This position serves to support selling activities to drive revenue and case volumes.

    Responsibilities

    • Identify specific in-market opportunities that are suitable for VDC in Greater Chicago.

    • Focus on a core list of key accounts, while identifying new opportunities in the market

    • Act as a primary point of contact for accounts in order to sell in product. This includes working with key Chicago influencers, including restaurant owners, bar managers, bartenders and front/back of house as well as our distributor.

    • Under the direction of the Midwest Market Manager, create a timeline and target account list with updated target restaurants (both current and future openings in the pipeline) along with a detailed plan of action for 2020 Chicago market penetration

    • “Boots on the ground” for distillery-run tasting events at accounts. Event interaction where required to plan product needs for other account or consumer events.

    • Encourage accounts to set-up events and tastings with focus on Virginia Distillery Company in accordance with Illinois laws

    • Sell in programs under the guidelines established by the Sales Director

    • Focus on Greater Chicago partnership programs and opportunities

    • Develop and optimize key accounts and opportunities in specific channels where required (i.e., hospitality)

    • Provide intel on key competitor activity, sell-through and product placement

    • Assist in sales support throughout the retail, on-premise and hospitality industry in Chicago

    • Maintain visibility in-market for VDC for the Chicago market

    This is a Contract position requiring approximately 25 - 30 hours per week based on activity.

    Experience:

Production Assistant

    Virginia Distillery Company, an American Single Malt whisky distillery located half an hour south of Charlottesville, Virginia, is seekinga full time Production Assistant capable of integrating with and working alongside a cohesive production team. Candidates will go through a 90 – 120 day onboarding period in which they will receive training on the various distillery processes such as Mashing, Distilling, Filling Casks, and other various tasks and work a set schedule of Monday through Friday. Afterwards, an employee review will be conducted, and the candidate may be assigned to a team, at which time they would shift to a rotating schedule with some weekends included.

    This is a salaried full-time position with benefits and will require complete availability Monday– Friday or as needed by the production schedule. The role will be located on-site at our Distillery in Lovingston, VA.

    Duties

    Assist distillery team in day to day operation of distillery. Position duties include observing all safety responsibilities, distilling, milling and mashing, cask filling and handling, sanitation, record keeping, quality checks, cleaning of all distillery areas, effluent plant upkeep, operating, processing and/or packaging equipment and cleaning of all distillery areas.

    Competencies

    • Applicant must be dependable, hardworking, professional, and comfortable working in various indoor/outdoor conditions
    • Manufacturing and/or wine and spirits industry experience preferred
    • Strong problem-solving skills
    • Forklift truck operation – certification a plus
    • Punctual and have reliable transportation
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel / Word / PowerPoint)
    • A high school diploma or bachelor’s degree and 2+ years of experience in food/beverage manufacturing. (Experience may substitute for a degree at the discretion of the hiring manager)
    • Experience and passion for the Wine and Spirits industry a plus
    • Applicant must be able to lift up-to 50 lb. and stand for extended periods of time
    • Work from heights and in confined spaces, with variable temperatures up to 100F
    • Knowledge of safe CIP practices is a plus
    • A full background check and drug screening may be required

Digital Marketing Manager

    The Digital Marketing Manager is a full time position and reports to the Brand Director. Management of staff and vendors as required. This position requires at least 4 days onsite per week at the distillery headquarters in Lovingston, VA.

    The person in this position will be responsible for the development, management and execution of all organic and paid digital and social strategies. This extends to both consumer facing for owned channels and supporting trade partners on similar platforms where compliant. Examples include website, SEM, display and social ads with audience and geo targeting as attached to overall brand strategy, audience definition, segmentation and remarketing strategies. Tactics include integration where possible into closed loop system for multi-channel strategy development. This is an exciting opportunity to build and develop the digital marketing strategy for a growing American Single Malt whisky distillery. Key responsibilities include:

    • Under direction from Brand Director, identify social media initiatives and ad campaigns in support of Brand initiatives
    • Develop insights and amplification strategies for key digital platforms, including content, segmentation, KPI tracking, tagging strategies, ad format, placement and targeting. Where necessary, manage agency vendor for ad buying.
    • Develop cohesive and integrated multi-channel strategies to support overall Brand as well as market specific campaigns
    • Amplify reach and awareness of other tactics including earned media and other press mentions
    • Develop and manage social media platforms and all associated website properties, including distillery website, landing pages, product selling platforms and trade information online databases and all associated strategies
    • Support Sales team, distributor and market requests for digital creative attached to campaigns or activations
    • Implement digital marketing strategies with respect to latest tactics and emerging technologies
    • Refinement of existing web properties and lead sourcing activities attached to programs such as Cask Society and other sales driven platforms
    • Work in conjunction with Marketing and Brand Manager to ensure all materials and strategies are in alignment with overall Brand strategy and are brand compliant
    • Develop and maintain alcohol compliance standards to follow for digital and social media strategies based on regulatory requirements and industry best practices
    • Develop digital influencer strategy and maintain relationships with key individuals and groups
    • Develop and execute all associated creative for campaigns, including email newsletters, video, photography and graphic design
    • Where approved, manage vendors for development of materials in conjunction with internally produced content

    Qualifications´╗┐

    • A bachelor’s degree in marketing, graphic design or a related field is required as well as 5 – 10 years of digital marketing experience, either at an agency or brand. Experience in paid and organic digital strategies as well as social media is required. Graphic design, photography and video skills are desired. Experience in the wine and spirits industry is preferred but not required. An MBA is desired but not required. This position requires at least 4 days onsite per week at the distillery headquarters in Lovingston, VA.

    • Set-up events and tastings at accounts with focus on Virginia Distillery Company in accordance with New York laws.
