Our Story

The Virginia Distillery Company is building a traditional malt whisky distillery, here among the rolling Blue Ridge Mountains. When we open our distillery in 2015, we will distill and age whisky from 100 percent malted barley by hand— not computer— and with the greatest attention to detail.

The result will be a singular Virginia malt whisky rooted in centuries of Scottish tradition and experience. Such excellent malt whisky requires the authentic equipment that has been used for centuries (got it), the skilled senses of a master distiller whose experience is measured in decades (check), and patience that lasts for years (have that, too). 

Guests to the distllery will be able to experience whisky production first-hand, through a tour and tasting experience that will incorporate the traditions and history of both Scotland and Virginia, as well as share a bit more about who we are and why we do it. The Visitor's Center will open to the public in the Fall of 2015. Keep an eye on this website for additional updates and news.

A slight twist on a beloved classic

  • 2 parts Virginia Highland Malt Whisky
  • 1 part Dolin Rouge sweet vermouth
  • dash orange bitters
  • dash Angostura bitters

Stir all ingredients together with ice and strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with an orange peel.
